Frozen peas make a good ice-pack (don't try to eat them afterwards) as they re-freeze quickly and can fold around the injured part. Always have a hanky or some other cloth between the skin and the ice-pack (in case of burns) and don't keep it on too long, say 5 mins..
Don't keep the compression bandage on when in bed.
After a couple of days try alternating ice and heat and begin doing gentle ankle stretches........I mean gentle and stop if you get a twinge. Draw circles with the toes, bring toes towards you then push away etc..
I was a track & field athletics coach in an earlier incarnation and have also had a couple of bad sprains myself. Take care.:)
