Is a cold compress good for a bruised swollen middle finger knuckle?
I cannot bend my middle finger as I used to before this injury.
I have a ring on my middle finger which has become tight as a result of the swelling. Should i take an anti - inflam tablet to ease the swelling?
Just been to A & E , they have worse cases to deal with so I could be there for hours and hours on end which is so very typical
Please help...thank you so very much in advance.

definately put a cold compress on it as it will reduce the swelling hopefully. also take ibuprofen if you are in pain and it should also help the swelling. if it has not died down by tomorrow you should get yourself off to the docs or A and E

good luck xx

Thank you so much for your advice Wonderwoman. I shall do as you have advised

Just to add to wonderwomens post, if the swelling does not reduce, and it gets to the stage where your ring can not move, go along to A&E as restricting the blood supply to your finger could result in serious damage, even loss of the finger.

You need to get to a fire station immediately. Do not wait till tomorrow. I'm a firefighter and have cut a few rings off fingers and it's worse when the swelling is as a result of an injury.

I will repeat this just in case you didn't quite understand, GO TO A FIRE STATION IMMEDIATELY AND GET IT CUT OFF, DO NOT WAIT FOR THE SWELLING TO GO DOWN. IT WILL PROBABLY GET WORSE.

Thank you so much to all that replied to my post.

I went to A & E this as the swelling got worse so I took Gazzawazza the firemans advice also.

They did cut my ring off and x-rayed my hand, luckily i've not broken any bones or fractured anything.

Doc Steve you were right, my blood supply was restricted. The only thing I have is heavy bruising which is really painful. Arm is now in a sling to reduce the swelling. They advised me to take anti-inflam tablets. I took my ring into the jewellers this morning to be repaired.

Hopefully i'll get back to fixing my fence and be a little more careful next time.

Thanks very much to all.
