Call From Windows

Had my first ever computer-related spam call today purporting to be from Windows. An Asian voice (surprise, surprise) with an English voice in the background prompting him. Of course I immediately terminated the call and blocked the number. What I am wondering is, as my phone is in no way linked to my computer, how do they know I have a computer and what OS I am running?

They don't know, they are just guessing. If you have a pc/laptop then your probably running Windows as it's the most popular.

As already said, they don't.
Someone rang a friend of mine aaaages ago, telling them that they had discovered a fault with their computer ..... even though they didn't even own one. They quickly hung up lol :P

in fact they are the front line callers and it is only when you say yeah
that the indian voice says - o I will turn you over to the technical dept,
where another voice thinks I have taken the bait

So the simple answer is just to say, "Sorry, but I don't have a computer".

I too took a call today from (erm) Windows - 'Robin' told me I had a problem with my computer.

I informed him I didn't have one and if he did he should get rid as they are dangerous things.

Used to get these calls (still do, but my BT8500 phone handles them).

My response was usually

I don't have a computer (not a lie - I don't have A computer!)

My other response usesd to be

I've told you X times before that........
