We’ve already done this:
However, since it’s been resurrected, see my answer at 12:04pm on Friday 19th to this question:

“I was struck by the way they all regarded themselves as 'Americans' with their 'Home State' taking very much a second place. There were 'Yanks' from Washington to Mississippi as well as a lot from Texas (due to Dallas being the headquarters of ARAMCO) but they were all 'Yanks' first and foremost. “
There is a huge difference, Eddie, between the United States of America and the “United States of Europe”. The States of the USA were never independent sovereign nations. They all (by and large) used the same language; they all used the same currency; they all submitted to the same government. They were not forced into any of these things as the sovereign nations of the EU are being forced, “salami style” to do.
“I often wonder if Europeans will some day feel the same way.”
Not a chance. Even the most pro-EU nations will never countenance the abolition of their national identity. Could you imagine the Germans agreeing to enter the Olympics under a “United States of Europe” banner? Could you imagine the French accepting that Champagne was a product of the EU rather than of France? The Euromanics have bitten off far more than they can chew if they believe they will ever achieve this and the ridiculous portrayal of the Olympic medals table which eliminates the 28 sovereign states demonstrates their ludicrous arrogance.
You may well feel this to be acceptable but I think you’ll find yourself in the minority, especially in the UK and probably in the EU as a whole.
