Following my post yesterday I have today suffered connection problems again and after contacting the Tiscali Help Line my line was checked and all is ok once again.

What I want to know is - does anybody know of anything in the offing that can help people like me - we are a distance from the exchange and have not got access to cable ?

Cas, I seen to recall your neighbour has no problems connecting to broadband, can you find out what type of modem he uses? If memory serves me correctly Tiscali provide a Thomson modem to their customers (the SpeedTouch 330), Ive always found this to be an excellent modem for lines with noise, and a distance form the exchange. Is this what you have?

No,I have a BT Voyager.Tiscali sent an Alcatel modem but we had trouble with that and so a computer engineer who tried to sort us out said that the BT Voyager would be the best.

Would that solve the problems ? If so,do you know the approximate cost of a Thomson modem ?

The SpeedTouch 330 costs around 25 and can be bought direct from their website www.speedtouch.co.uk , It's difficult to guess if this would definitely solve the problem, if possible I'd suggest trying to borrow one to test before buying. I would still recommend pressing BT to do something to increase the quality of the line (in my case, upping the gain).
