Our collection day is Fridays(today) yet they repeatedly come and drag the big black bin out and empty it on a Thursday, before it's been filled properly. And today I still have to put out the blue recycling boxes and food waste bin . Yesterday morning I went out for 2 hours. Next to the black bin was a 5 litre tin of white paint, with only about an inch used, ready to go to the recycling depot up the road once I'd worked out what to put it in. I get bk 2 hours later and the bin men have yet again come up my drive to grab the black bin a day early, but they have also knocked over the tin of paint which has spilt everywhere - and just left it!! I rang the council who said they would send someone to clean it up - nobody bothered to turn up. I've just rang again and they say I didn't call yesterday!! God knows how I'm going to clean it up!

It probably just depends on your local council ummmm

White gloss eek :((
White gloss? possibly enamel then.

To remove the dried paint use enamel thinner or lacquer thinner, nasty chemical, consider replacing gravel.

Acrylic paint removal

Once again, nasty chemicals, consider replacing gravel.

Or have it turned over to hide the painted bits.

Put your fighting mitts on and go for the local councils jugular.

Fingers crossed. xx

I would follow your complaint up with a bill to the council for the clean up and replacement of any gravel you have had to remove plus labour costs.
Leaving aside the remedies for the paint, I'd report this issue to your local Councillor and get him/her to sort out the Refuse Dept. In addition, I'd post on the Fixmystreet website for the community to read. If there's one thing councils hate, it's bad publicity.
woofgang, the council will not admit liability unless there is photographic evidence or a witness that actually knocked the paint tin over. It could have been done by a dog.
Will try again:

woofgang, the council will not admit liability unless there is photographic evidence that a binman knocked the paint tin over or a witness that actually saw a binman knocking it over. It could have been done by a dog after all.
The only way you can deal with this is to wait for it to dry and the throw away the 'painted' gravel and replace it with new. Trying to remove the paint from each bit of gravel is ridiculous and would take days or even weeks.
^agree there is no actual proof the binmen did it, it could have been kids have a 'laugh' another caller or a dog. Just wait for it to dry then pick it up, throw out the gravel and replace with new.

I know it was the bin men although yes I can't prove it. The odds of a dog/kids coming all the way up my driveway , somehow knocking a tin of paint over in the exact two hours that the bin men came up driveway to that exact spot is so unlikely.
^I agree, but without actual proof the council will do nothing, just replace the gravel as I said.
oh...I thought you saw them do it....
Question Author
Sadly not but I know it was them
You seem absolutely certain that you "know" it was the binmen although you have no proof. If you are 100% certain, proof or not, you've got nothing to lose in contacting the council.
I question why you left a tin of paint with an unsecured lid outside???? Asking for trouble I think.
The only 'evidence' is that Smow went out for 2 hours and when she got back the bins had been emptied and the paint had been knocked over. Nothing to prove the two events were linked. No council is going to pay up on that 'evidence' ! . Sorry Smow, but you can't say you 'know' it was the binmen if you were not even in the area!
What if the council say they have spoken to the men involved and they say either, they know nothing about it, or that the paint was already spilled when they picked up the bag?
