Freezing Apples
12 Answers
I have a glut of small local variety cookers. They do not keep for more than a few days and I'm thinking of stewing some and freezing them for crumble in the winter of for having with yoghurt. Any other quick and easy ideas for them? I mean masses not recipes that use a handful! Thanks

You can cut them in slices and dry them in the oven, - great to nibble at; http://www.g ettystewart. com/how-to-m ake-homemade -dried-apple -rings-in-th e-oven/

I'd peel, chop and blitz the whole lot in the microwave to cook it, then freeze it in useable amounts. You can then use it at your leisure for anything you like - crumble, pie, apple sauce, apple sponge, apple Amber, apple tray bake, presents, etc.
What seems like masses now, when blitzed in the micro (or stewed in a pan) reduces down considerably. I used to do this with cooking apples from my mums tree, never wasted a single apple.

Well I peeled and cored until I could peel and core no more, and then I stewed that batch for the freezer.
Thanks for all your replies and suggestions. I especially like the idea of drying slices in the oven, and also using the microwave. Not sure why I didn't think of that myself.
We had baked apples for tea and I'll make some apple cake for the freezer too in the week. But there are still 20+ bucket fulls if anyone wants any!
