in yesterdays Daily Mail a journalist was recommending we do not wash our hair. His argument being that after a period of time nature kicks in and takes care of it naturally. I have read of this before and have tried, but never get past a week. Anyone out there had success, and do you recommend it? I would add that the journalist in question was male and seemed from his picture to be follically challenged anyway. I have shoulder length hair myself.

There was an article in Closer Mag a few months back about a woman who hadnt washed her hair for twelve years, and never washed her childrens hair, but it was fine! natural oils protect the hair and after a while it stops looking greasy and looked quite healthy apparently! but there is no way on earth i'd stop washing my hair! it makes me feel good, and also waiting six weeks or however long with greasy lank locks is not my idea of fun!

I left mine for about a week recently to see how true this is. I had to wash it though. It just didn't seem right. I must admit my hair still looked OK though. I have now stopped washing it every day in the shower and leave it for a few days and I have stopped using conditioner.

The only thing that springs to mind is that surely the hair must smell. I would hate to think my hair smelled.

Due to being poorly I once left my hair without washing for 8 weeks, it was in the best condition it's ever been but I felt manky and as soon as I was well again I washed it, it didn't smell or anything but I just felt dirty!!

I know of a few people who leave their hair and they have 'just stepped out of the salon' hair!

I just dont really see any reason to leave your hair...We all have regular showers/baths (i pressume), our hair always gets wet, so why not just add a bit of shampoo?

The only thing i know about my hair is that when i dont straighten it or blow dry it for a while it tends to be in a lot better condition.

But just for hygiene reasons i wouldnt really on 'nature' on this one.

Ive heard of this too, but I believe it takes 3-4 weeks for your natural oils to even out and your hair to stop looking greasy. Can you still style your hair in the normal way though? My hair is very fine and needs styling mousse at the very least on the front of my hair to stop it from flopping in my face. I use straighteners on nights out too. I would stop washing my hair if I knew for a fact that my hair would not smell and that I could still style it how I wanted.

Hang on a minute. What do these people do about haircuts? Do they have to insist on dry cuts at the hairdressers? :o\

I have shoulder length hair & used to wash it every day, but now wash & condition it 2/3 times a week.

I could never leave it for longer than a week, for fear of it feeling itchy or smelling.

I don`t wash my hair everyday & never put any hair products on it.I`ve always used a beer shampoo since I was little, over 50 years. I ALWAYS have a dry cut when I go to the hairdressers & take my own shampoo if I get it done. I`ve noticed that more men are losing their hair at a younger age than used to & ladies hair seems to be thinner. I`m convinced it`s all the gunk that gets put on it.
I have realised that what my hairdresser told me is completely true. All conditioner does is put a coating over the individual hairs and makes it perhaps easier to comb. My hair looks so much better without it I had just got into the conditioner habit.

Let's face it - washing your hair makes you feel good. Nothing better than a nice hot shower in the morning. I sometimes don't wash my hair for a couple of days and it feels SO good once it is washed.

Thank you all, sorry some of you only got two stars, a slip of my digits, nothing intentional, all equally well thought out. Still don't know if I am brave enough to risk it. Like most of you I couldn't bear it if I thought my hair smelled, mind you it does stand a fighting chance now smoking is banned in public places, but thats another subject altogether.
Surely it would stink??

i did this and i can confirm it is true.

i left my for about 8 weeks and it went nice after about 4

i only eventually washed it because i got pelted with eggs and flour on misechief night.

it isn't nice for a while, which is the hardest bit, but it does go lovely.

it doesn't smell or itch. nature knows what its doing and will cover all bases given a chance.

you should give it a good brushing and even a blow through with a cool hairdryer.

i also do not use deoderant. and i don't smell. i wash and spray perfume under my arms.
