If I say my son is 18 is this legal ?

Im taking my son to watch England on Saturday at a local drinking establishment but he is 17 and I think you have to be 18 to get in.If he gets asked his age and I,as his Dad,say he is 18 does this satisfy any legal oligation they have ?

I understand that he could still be refused entry but as I am vouching for him,I am removing any responsibility they have.

If you have to be 18 to get in, it must be there rules - I know someone taking his young son, and pubs do allow kids in these days. I personally wouldn't worry about it, just go.

What type of establishment is it? Do they have doormen?
IIRC If it is a pub and he is eating and accompanied by his parents then he can consume a beer with his meal (think you have to be over 14). If he is not drinking alcohol then I don't think there are any age limits unless there are some imposed by the landlord.

Its at our local theatre in a back hall on a big screen with a bar.There are doormen as I went there in 2002.

Im sure all will be fine but im one of those people who crosses t's and dots i's so want to be sure to avoid any diappointment!

If it's a local pub you're going to then as long as he is accompanied by an adult then it doesn't matter what age he is.

Also if you get any hassle, why not visit your local cinema as they're screening the football matches (check on odeon.co.uk)

thanks guys but its not a pub which is why im uncertain.....its a back room in a theatre serving alcohol.i cant remember any yoofs there from 2002 but i may be wrong.

You may find that there is an 18 or over rule simply because of insurance reasons. Should anything occur to your son (injury etc), you may find that not only can you not make any compensation claim, but that you could be held negligent as a "responsible adult", having taken him, knowing full well that it was 18 years or over only. Having said that, rules are there to be broken and we live in a virtual nanny state. If it was me I'd go, but be aware that the situation that I have stated may be in existance in this case. Have a good time.
