They do tend to die when caught as they are very nervous creatures.

I've seen one emerge from the ground and scuttle along the verge for while before disappearing into the leafs and grass.

I've held one in my hand. He was beautiful and much smaller than I expected.

I once intervened when I encountered two green keeping students about to decapitate one with a spade that had made an appearance on their lawn.
