Went to see friends in Portugal in early September. They had a lovely granddaughter and when I went home I sent a rather nice teddy bear and a card separately under brown paper wrapping (traditional pretty wrapping inside).
No response. Am I a bit naive thinking that they would have at least emailed to say it arrived?

I threw a pardy and no one emailed me to say they liked it
they liked the booze certo
I shrugged my shoulders and planned the next -lackof emails seems no reason to stop throwing them
I made a decision about 3 years ago, that if I didn't get any acknowledgements from nieces and nephews for presents and money at birthdays and Xmas, then there wouldn't be any further ones the following year.....and it worked !
Besides my mother everyone I give or receive presents from are local so I thank them in person.

My mother always gets a late thank you because she gives my presents to my sister who forgets to give them to me...
Mikey, What do you mean, 'it worked'? If, after receiving no acknowledgement you bought them no further presents, what worked?
mikey, if you send me a cheque for the money you have saved i promise to send you an acknowledgement
But I am not saving any money....I now get a "thank you" from everyone concerned...sorted !
erm the ones that thanked him got the further prezzies I imagine.

I take the stock market view - past behaviour is no guarantee of future performance
JennyKenny, 'gift is not a verb' I beg to differ

If it was so important to know it arrived, maybe you should have track and traced it with post office or ask the recipients to let them know when it arrived.

Cloverjo, next time send a cheque but forget to sign it (!)
I take joy from the giving.

Thanks are a bonus and usually I get those too.
JK, “to gift” is a verb and an old one too
