I'm thoroughly enjoying, if that is the word, the Robbie Coltrane and Julie Walters performances in National Treasure. Both terrific actors, but, as someone of Julie Walter's character's age, and Irish/Scottish/Catholic background, I can't imagine using the language that her character does - especially the 'C' word. It is so far beyond what someone of our generation would use as to be not believable.
Or am I being naive?
I'm watching it but not enjoying it which is a silly thing to do really! I suppose it's because I want to know what happens. He's a very good actor, isn't he, but I'm not sure about Julie Walters in this one. It's a very dark and unhappy series.
You're nit being naive, Jenny. I'm afraid I find the everything to do with this programme totally unbelievable: from Julie Walters' woeful attempt at a Scottish accent to the laughably bad casting of the actors in the flashback scenes. The whole thing is spoiled by the tricksy direction of Marc Munden
And I meant to say that the 'C' word is increasingly heard now on TV - used a couple of weeks ago on Fleabag. Makes me cringe - I thought it was taboo on TV
I thought Julie Walters' accent was meant to be Irish.
I also can't imagine that her character would have used the c word.
I don't know whether Robbie's character actually raped Rebecca, but are we meant to suspect that he had sex with his daughter and she kind of fell in love with him, which is why she's so screwed up now?
I'm not sure I wanted to watch this, but I have to see how it turns out.
I'm enjoying it but agree with cloverjo. There's something dark going on with the daughter. I guess Walters character has mixed so long with showbusiness that she would pick on the swearwords.
not watched last night's yet..agree very dark..wondered about Walter's accent..thought it was a mid Atlantic Irish...language probably in keeping with that social circle..unpleasant at best
I'm her age too and no, we wouldn't use that word, my language can get a bit ripe when I lose my temper, but never that. I am enjoying the series though.
