Will this now make white soldiers more conspicuous to the enemy?
Well here is one who has surrendered to the PC brigade.

Mamyalynne, all the more reason to post it, in my opinion. High time we stopped kowtowing to this petulant nonsense. Everyone's treading on eggshells for fear of upsetting anyone else - and everything, it seems, upsets someone.

//Face camouflage should be suited to the surroundings//
What about a very dark 'black' night?
Didn't Gazza experience some difficulty recently, and that was only in the wings of a theatre? //
That is not comparable in the slightest!
The gentleman concerned was not wearing camouflage paint, and well you know it. I think you are mischief-making.

///don’t ever think that serving makes you a better man///
I don't, nor have I ever expressed that opinion. What I will always say is that if you have never been there and experienced it you will not understand the humour that goes with it.
It really does not work in Civvy Street where uninformed opinions are the norm, and it should never have been put out there because it just gives the anti Services brigade something else to whinge about.

A fair point - but your barbed observation certainly pointed in that direction.

I don't agree at all.
I have never been in Belsen, but I certainly have a robust opinion about the Final Solution.
The notion that you need to experience something directly in order to have an informed opinion about it is not valid.
I write for technical magazines about drums, bass guitars, acoustic guitars and electric guitars. I play none of these, even badly, but I am able to have an informed conversation with top level musicians who do, on their level, because I understand a seriously large amount about them and the instruments they play.

Again an assumption which I do not believe has weight.
//and it should never have been put out there because it just gives the anti Services brigade something else to whinge about. //
And there we are absolutely in agreement. It was a rather juvenile prank, and it should have stayed in-house.

No I didn't - but I do now.
It is you who has shifted the discussion - we began by discussing the humour - or not - of the picture, and proceeded along that line.
I mentioned my writing to illustrate that you do not need to experience something directly to understand it from the point of view who people do - in other words, I am not a musician, but I understand people who are.
Then you suddenly swerve into the idea that I am comparing that with being in a fire fight - where on earth does that come into the conversation? I never mentioned fire fights, and I never made a comparison.
I I'm not getting into a debate with you because whatever way it goes you would simply write it off as an opinion, which is your usual cop-out, so I'm not going to waste my time. //
I am not saying that you have an opinion that is wrong, or that I do, or anything about 'opinions'.
If you want to stick to the point - military humour - then you know where I am.
If you want to dip out of the debate, absolutely not a problem.
But don't try and make your exit my fault when it is clearly your inability to debate on the subject under discussion.

A totally blacked-out face for military type reasons is ideal and the norm in this region (Central Americas Jungle). Cam-cream contains lots of anti-insect repellent, it is a very effective sun-blocker and a totally blacked-out face is more suitable for a jungle environment camouflage.
Those offended by this (if there are any) are useless idiots who have nowt worthwhile to contribute to the world.
