i need to lose weight!!! I have put on 3 stone in a year, I am currently taking prozac, but my doctor says that weight gain is not a side effect with this drug. I dont eat choc, sweets or crisps so cant understand it. Im going to a family wedding in July and I just dont want to go, nothing to wear and feel like a weeble..............

are you stressed?..sometimes they say if you are,your body produces more cortisol and that makes you put weight on?

have they done a blood test to check your thyroid is ok?...

have you kept a food diary to see what you do eat every day... sometimes that can be surprising!!

try not to worry about it though, i'm sure whatever you wear to the wedding you will look great

I have had a thryoid test done and everything is normal. I have had a couple of stressful years and lost weight!!! I got a divorce last year, and no live somewhere where |I dont particually want to live but its a case of having too for a couple of years. I honestly hardly eat anything
that might be part of the problem if u r hardly eating your body will be storing all it gets if that makes sense!! i might be completely wrong!! someone please correct me if i am xXx
no you are right posy-jo.If you aren't eating enough then your body will think that you are trying to starve yourself and so will lay down as fat almost everything you do eat,as it doesn't know where the next meal is coming from.

i have found that when i was depressed and taking prozac, that i did less, moved about less. do you sit around doing nothing a lot? i just couldn't be bothered.


i don't know if it was because of the depression or the prozac

I feel as though I really need to start from fresh, wake up one morning and be so confident in myself, any ideas on how to kick start me? I have loads of clothes which so not fit anymore, but keep them in the hope....... I cant believe that last year I was wearing them and now they will go nowhere near me, its so depressing, what can I do, went looking for some clothes yesterday but gave up as I dont want to buy size 16 when I should be 10/12!!!

admittidly I dont exercise a lot anyway, buy the time I have worked 9 hours a day, all I want to do is go home and relax, I sometimes cant even be bothered to make tea.

I think that big changes start with small changes. To look at losing 3 stone or whatever is just too much. Why don't you make a small change, such as go for a walk after tea each evening or go for a swim once a week, whatever - just one small change. Do that for a couple of weeks - really make yourself stick to it. Then see if you can introduce another small change.
I lost 4lbs in one month just by using my stepper while Eastenders was on. 4lbs might not seem much for 1 month - but if you do it again the next month and maybe add one more activity, thats 8lbs.
Good luck - losing weight is the pits but if you tackle it a bit at a time maybe thats the way forward.

thanks for your advice. you are right of course, it just seems such a big hurdle at the moment, but small changes soon mount up
Why don't you go for a short walk after tea tonight? Post back tomorrow and lets know how you got on. It should be a lovely evening. Go on - be a devil !

Hi, As you are on Prozac I assume you have depression. Depression and weight gain could be a sign of an underactive thyroid gland (diagnosed with a simple blood test). Although this is not a qualified answer so please visit your GP.


Also, when we are depressed our bodies tend to slow down and although you say you don't eat much, you may be eating more than you realise.


Ask your GP if there are any exercise/weightloss groups that are run by your health trust. My husband needs to lose weight and has been refered to a local group that is run by our health authority. He gets to use the gym and is weighed regulary.


If not, try and join a slimming group. You will meet people with the same problems and make new friends...all in all a good recipe to beat depression.


About the wedding...GO AND ENJOY YOURSELF!! I'm sure that the couple would rather see you there and not be bothered about your weight gain. There are plenty of stores out there who sell beautiful clothes in larger sizes. If you go to a specialist store you will also be given all to advise you need to look good and hopefully feel great!

hey i know something that will really kick start your morning and helps you lose weight and lightens your mood. grapefruit tea.


you get half a a grapefruit and take the juice out of it then you pour the juice in to a cup and add boiling water you then whisk it a little so its nice and frothy at the top (but you don't have to do this) then add a tea spoon of honey to take the bitterness away.


drink this first thing in the morning before breakfast. it really works you feel in a good mood all day.it may be a bit too much at first but you get used to it.

I too am trying to lose weight, I really recommend the slimming world diet, it has worked wonders for me, I have lost half a stone this week. I too yake an anti depressant, keep your chin up and look at the slimming world website for your nearest group x

well needless to say I didnt get out for a walk last night, BUT I have brought some Grapefruit juice which is apparently good and a punnet of strawberries!!!! I am amazed at the response I got from posting this question and it has lifted my spirits somewhat knowing that there is someone out there willing to help me along the way!!! I will keep you up to date with all my progress- will def go for a stroll tonight, am off work for 5 days from tomorrow and since I havnt got internet at home will have to update you on Monday!!!!
