We've just come back from a relaxing week away to find our lawn covered in mole hills. One is at least a foot high and 18 inches across - enormous. How on earth do we solve this? My husband wants to dig holes and pour bleach down, but I don't particularly want to hurt the critters, just despatch them. Please help.

I work in an animal feeds shop/country store and we sell mole catchers - they would kill them though, but at least they only kill the moles and not the worms etc which is what would happen in you poured bleach down holes!

Thank you, spudqueen. How much approx are these mole catchers and how do you position them please? Is it humane or do I need to go out for the day when the traps are opened?!?
Will check when I next go into work (the shop is shut on Mondays).
You can buy mole traps and mole smokes, which will of course kill or harm them, but one think you might like to try first which should'nt cost a penny is to carefully dig out the hills to locate the 'runs' and place a sprig of gorse in there, this is claimed to drive the moles out Good Luck.
Don't pay more than 3 quid for a mole trap
My grandmother used to swear by putting Deep Heat down the holes ..... they hated the smell and went away somewhere else.
My father in law used to poke a hosepipe down one of the holes, then connect the other end to the car exhaust. Not environmentally friendly, but it worked!
Bleach? Exhaust fumes? No, no, no! There is no excuse for harming animals. Try ultrasound or some other humane method to get them to move on. (see adverts on this page)

I think the most humane way to solve your dilema is not to go on holiday anymore as the moles obviously know your away and are having a wonderful time!

sorry......

Hi again, the mole traps we sell are mole tunnel traps and mole claw traps, about 4 - 5. Not sure how the tunnel trap works, but the claw trap is put in the run from the top and works something like a mouse trap. If you are interested in buying traps then check in your yellow pages for animal feeds shops or country stores (anywhere you would buy horse feed etc), or you can check out this website www.trilanco.com

Sorry, the link didn't work, try www.trilanco.com
