Will This Have An Adverse Effect On The Amount Of Future Donations?
20 Answers
I notice there is a large increase in those ceramic poppies that some people have now chosen to wear rather than the usual simple cloth type.
Does this not divert from the whole idea of picking a simple poppy and then donating cash in to the British Legions cash tins?
Will those who possess these 'everlasting' poppies be inclined to bring them out each year and so choose not to donate?

I discussed this on a thread last night, I have a collection of various Poppies acquired over the years - they are always bringing new ones out.
In hc's link you'll see the wonderful Somme commemorative ones and the story of how they are made is superb.
There may be a few people who pay say £20 for a Poppy brooch and never pay again but for myself, I contribute throughout the year not just a pound in a collection box at Remembrance time.

This was a thread yesterday, which although the topic appears unrelated it does develop somewhat - if anyone is interested to read it.

I think you should go out with your jangly can and ask them AOG
I think the act of giving and remembering has nothing to do with whether you have a paper cloth or ceramic poppy

In an ideal world there'd be no need for a poppy day. Even in a less than ideal one the government ought to provide for the needs of citizens such that a charity for exservice personnel was not thought needed.
I suspect whilst some might no longer donate, most will as they will understand that the point is not in the flaunting of the poppy symbol but in the contributions to the cause.

I tend to lose/squash the paper poppies, so for the last few years have bought several other designs from various websites, including the RBL.
They are either proper broaches (to go on coats/jackets), or pins (for jumpers/blouses).
But every year I still put a significant donation in one of the Legion boxes.
I think that's fair.
