dvd recorder - discs not recording
10 Answers
I have been recording on +rw discs and have had no problems but today I started to use a pack of +r discs and have had problems with every disc.
Firstly, I recorded a programme but on playback the picture kept freezing. I tried other discs but the same thing happened on some occasions and sometimes the recording would just stop and the recorder would switch off. I have tried recording at different speeds and the same thing happens.
My recorder is compatible with +rw and +r discs.
Does anybody know what is going wrong.
Thanks.

R discs have to be finalised before they play properly on other players. Could this be the cause?
But you could have a faulty batch of discs - it happens and is annoying!
If you have an old rw disc that you know has recorded ok before, try recording on that.

It also depeneds on the make of disc.
I've spent ages trying to find cheap discs on the net, but you get what you pay for
http://www.cdrdvd.com/product.php?pid=2103 seem to be the best i could find (approx 9 for 25) - I was looking for printable ones though

Thanks Gastwo, the +r discs that are causing the trouble are 16x whereas the +rw ones that I have no problems with are 4x. There is nothing in my user guide to say if these discs are incompatible. I didn't think the disc speed would be a problem but I could be wrong. I think I will ring the helpline tomorrow unless anybody else has any offers. Thanks.
Thats what I thought, Bob, but I've got two different writers, one external and one in my lap top, both 8x, and I found neither were happy with 16x (tried 2 different brands, one cheap, one not so). Half way through writing the discs were ejected. Back to 8's, same brands, and no more problems. Odd...
