One question got me thinking.
What procedure happens during childbirth. Answer enema. No epidural!
Going back to the sixties we were given an enema before child birth. Also we were shaved as well.
Things are so different today.

Thank goodness it has Caran, both unnecessary in the first place. I was 'offered' an enema with my second birth, I declined.

I wonder what procedures are being done today that in a few years will have been thought unnecessary?
Elina "wonder what procedures are being done today that in a few years will have been thought unnecessary"

Probably the method of conception.
My youngest is 18. Nothing was done so I suppose they can't progress from that.

They just monitored and offered drugs if they thought you needed them.

I had 'problem' pregnancies so they continuously monitored me.
My youngest is 33. She was born one week premature on my birthday. As the nurse was shaving me she said, "helluva way to spend your birthday."

I had an enema with my first, too. 1979.
My daughter has just turned 30 - I wasn't shaved nor had an enema thank heavens and left hospital after 3 days. They must have changed thinking in the early 80s.
I needed the enema in the days after the birth with No 1!
I wasn't given a choice. Enema plus shave - not nice to remember :(
Why an enema?
It was thought preferable not to deliver more than a baby when you bore down.
Too much information, ladies.

I have a great respect for mothers, but I'm speaking as the male who justifies the old saying "if man had the first baby and woman the second, there'd never be a third".

I was as delicate as I could be as the question was asked :-)
Maybe a bit more intrusion of reality into everyday life would help folk get a grip on their lives.
There's blood and guts all around, people, we just have people to tidy up before we see it now.
Turkeys ain't born deep frozen and no animal ever came into the world pre-sliced.
I haven't got a squeamish thing about me, but I respect others may have.
My wife was cut unnecessarily as were all maternity mothers in her hospital in 1974. Many salt baths ensued. We had our other children at home.
Wise move David.
There's a story that W. G. Grace was congratulated by a team mate after a good knock of two hundred runs on a Sunday afternoon:

"... despite, as I hear that you were up most of the night with a difficult pregnancy. How did it go?".

"I lost the child. I lost the mother. Fortunately the father survived."
