Japanese Knot Weed

Please can someone tell me how I can permanently get rid of Japanese knot weed. It is refusing to go away and is taking over my garden. Help!!!!!!!

There is no easy answer to that. Which is why it is such a dangerous pest plant. Persistence is the thing. Viciously mow or hack down every stem you see. Apply a topical weedkiller if possible. Tear out every root you find. Buy a garden blowtorch and focus it on the decapitated stems until you hear them cook. If you keep this up religiuosly you can get rid of it wthin a couple of years. With luck. But you must get all of it, so if it is coming under the fence from next door gget your neighbour to cooperate.

If it is coming under the fence, you can dig a trench about 18 inches deep and attact plastic to the bottom of the fence ie: extend the fence down into the earth - should keep the roots from getting in..(well, it worked with brambles)

hello fellow killer of the weed from japan! i am a barber and talk to hundreds of people.i am about to buy a building plot full of JKW and loads of people have got rid of it .i have been told that cutting the stem so that you can see the hollow and then filling it with salt will kill it.the salt is a poison and will kill the root the man said he has had success from tha .he also siad that because of the waxy skin on the weed it wont obsorb the weed killer that is sprayed onto it.then another man has told me to clear the ground and then spread lime over it that should kill it so im going to do both hope you kill it if so let me know if it works chers good luck

I have done some reading on this subject and the best way (I think) is to strim down to about an inch and spray with a strong mixture of salt and water but be sure to add quite alot of salt, you may need to do this the following week to be sure. When is has died dig ALL the roots out and dig in some lime. Good luck
