I met a passenger in Heathrow airport this morning. I would say she was in her early 60s. I can`t remember how I got talking to her but she said that she was looking forward to buying an Oyster card so that she could travel around in London as she does in New York on her travel card. She was single and instead of sitting at home in NY for Christmas on her own she had taken herself off to London and had tickets for the Nutcracker at the ENO and Sleeping Beauty at the ROH. She was staying at an airbnb and was so excited to be spending Christmas in "your city" I walked through the airport with her and she was such a joy. No question - just thought I`d share.
It's nice to meet nice people but include your self in that because she was able to convey that information ment she also felt comfortable in your company .
well done her......there is so much personal pleasure to be had if one is experimental - and in the fun of new experiences. I've just shared one of my fav hotels in the world for the accommodation, food and staff and I wouldn't hesitate in spending Christmas here if I was single and no family....even better to go with a close friend.... http://www.falsledkro.dk/
just as well you didnt say she couldnt just march in and get one
she cant just go and pay for one ( like a carnet in gay Paree ) can she ?
I was told I needed it to be sent to an address
I don't know what PP is on about either. An Oyster card is available from any Oyster Ticket Stop (which includes thousands of newsagents, conveniences stores, etc. across London, as well as all Underground stations) simply by handing over a fiver deposit plus a minimum of £1.50 PAYG credit.
However if the American visitor had ordered a Visitor Oyster card before travelling she'd have also received lots of discount vouchers for attractions in the capital.
