My son asked me to get a jar a mincemeat. Can't get one anywhere. Why has everyone gone mad for mincemeat? Is it the same all over the country, or is there a shortage in the SW for some strange reason?

We have had quite limited quantities at the Morrisons' where I work but it has been flying out (give me a spoon and I'll eat it straight out of the jar - love it).
asda nr where i live ran out of mince pies...its the end of the world !!
....I've just passed a stack of Christmas "stuff", including mincemeat, in Waitrose.
I have to say, though, "bit last minute, innit?"
My Iceland has run out of the luxury mince pies. These are delish.
Have you tried your local butcher ?
I reckon it may be related to Xmas being close.

I recall when I was young, my brother being sent out on an Xmas errard my my mother, to get some mincemeat. Came back saying that the shop didn't have any so had brought back a tin of stewing steak asking if that would do.

No1 son found a jar at Paddington Station's M&S. I don't know why it's in short supply down here.

O_G, I was wondering if I asked someone who works in my local Tesco if I'd be sent to the meat aisle. It seems everyone is asking for it, so they all know the difference.
I know mincemeat is classed as a Christmas thing but if you ask for it in a shop at any other time of the year, they look at you as if you've asked for something disgusting. It's my husband's favourite and I still make him mince pies, puffs, and tarts all year round. The answer is to stock up at Christmas, as some has a 2 year shelf life, and then you have a supply all year round.
