Hi Fi Speaker Cable

After receiving very good advice from Gingejbee and hcg481,I went onto Richer Sounds website and placed an order for a new Hi Fi.

Then it said,don't forget to state length of cable required.

The cable prices stretched from 'a couple of quid',per metre...to £300 per metre.

Seeing that the Hi Fi I have in mind costs £299...what cable would be best?

Why the huge cost range?

I'm glad that you guided me to,the more,'economy' versions.

I take it,that at £299,this Hi Fi does not require a more expensive cable.

It's a..Denon DM 40 & Q Acoustics Q 3010.

Nice unit & nice speakers (I've got some very similar) - but any reasonable quality speaker cable will do the job - let others pay for the exotica :)

Well, to paraphrase a passage from Douglas Adams' Hitchikers Guide series, high ticket items are bought "by rich idiots, to impress other rich idiots". But that's just the late author's anti-oneupmanship cynicism for you.

Somebody, somewhere, has decided that they *can* perceive a difference with expensive cable, so the trading standards authorities have no grounds to swoop down and ban their sale. Like any marketplace, there are products to suit any wealth level.

Ultimately, if *you* cannot detect the improved sound quality, then why waste your money?

Electrons are not really fussy about their travelling arrangements, and 3 amp flex is a lot cheaper.
