Well....I have now watched the program, although I am not quite sure how I watched it to the very end to be honest.

I found Spencer to be one of the creepiest and most chilling persons that I have ever witnessed. There were times during the 80 minutes that he made my flesh literally creep.

Professor David Wilson came to his conclusion that Spencer is a psychopath, something that I had reached after the first 30 mins. Wilson said that Spencer was manipulative and he was definitely that, in spades. All those periods of crocodile tears didn't fool anybody.

There was one piece of evidence that stuck out for me. Spencer admitted that he did murder his friend Wilkes, about a year after Carl was shot, in exactly the same way, with a shotgun. He said that Wilkes had annoyed him, so he went out to his car, sawed the barrels off his shotgun with a hacksaw, and then went in again and killed Wilkes.

But why would he have taken the considerable trouble of sawing the barrels off the shotgun, when he could just have picked the gun up and shot him anyway ? I am not an expert in these matters but it can't have been easy to saw off the barrels of a shotgun.

I sincerely hope that the Police now re-interview everybody associated with the Carl Bridgewater case, including Spencer, and that they make a proper job of it this time, although why they didn't re-open the case after the 4 previously convicted men were released in 19997 is beyond my understanding.

Carl deserved some justice here.

One last thought....Spencer has brought all this on himself. If he hadn't of written his book and then agreed to let Professor Wilson interview him,
he could just have spent his last few years living the quite life.

Whatever else he is, he is intelligent and he must have realised that he ran a very grave risk of exposing himself to ridicule and suspicion, by allowing all this to be raked up again.

This to me speaks the loudest.....he is an attention-seeking psychopath, without doubt.

The ex-wife obviously lied only once during her interview at the end, when she claimed she never thought any of the antiques were stolen.
Her facial expression was totally different at that point.

I remember the Carl Bridgewater case very well ( happened not to far from my neck of the woods ), if it was this scum bag I hope he's nailed for it.

I assume his wife at the time was interviewed or made a statement, why has she decided to talk now, or she did with a different story?

I’ve only just watched this. Very interesting. Nasty comments about Anne Whelan.

I have always wondered if Spencer killed Hubert Wilkes thinking that if he was going to be convicted of murder, it would be a better option to be in prison for the murder of an adult, rather than a child.

I now wonder if he collaborated with the book and instigated the documentary thinking it would prove his innocence, but it has backfired on him, as he has now been labled a psycopath.

Svejk, I am interested to know why you think the right men were convicted first time.

Just from recollection. They were caught robbing a farmhouse with a shotgun.(it was what they did) They all gave detailed accounts of what happened albeit minimising their own involvement.
It was like manna from heaven when a shotgun murder occurred nearby within a year( although a completely different kettle of fish) and the older member of the gang (who first dobbed them in) died in prison.
There was a 'vogue' at the time for overturning verdicts.
I thought the programme, the other night, was very biased and rather jumped to some astonishing conclusions.
I'd like to see a more balanced programme. Maybe the police will reopen the enquiry. I'm still open to having my mind changed.

Perhaps a read of ‘Murder At The Farm - Who Killed Carl Bridgewater’ by Paul Foot would change your mind. I think it’s time I got my copy out for another read!

There is no doubt the original four were bad lads, but I don’t think they were child murderers.

I was a big fan of Paul Foot in my youth. But, then, I was also a fan of The Bay City Rollers. ( I wasn't really, but you know what I mean)

You don't think they were child murderers. Neither do I. But their original story, that the gun accidentally 'went off', sounds quite credible.
