road tax online

Has anyone succeeded in renewing their car tax online.? My reminder stated I could pay online or by phone. I tried for ages to access the site this pm eventually getting a message it was closed for 'routine maintenance' so tried to phone got either engaged signal with no ringback service or temporarily 'out of order' so no progress!!

If you have the latest vehicle registration and MOT forms you can do it online in the UK. Very easy took 5 minutes paid by credit card. Better than Post Office queue.

Actually it should be easier to do online with debit card at least in theory. I agree with tellboy

I suppose I would say I am in rural Essex, (not far from you In A Pickle) but the nearest licensing PO I prefer is 5 miles drive away and I believe POs will not be able to do in future

I've done mine online twice now (in the UK) and it was far more convenient for me as I didn't have to rush to town after work and try to park up before dashing to the post office before it shut.

As has been said though, make sure you do it at least 5 days before it runs out, I was due to go away for the weekend on the friday and was panicing come thursday when my tax disc hadn't arrived (it ran out saturday).

i've been doing it online for a while with several vehicles..the only problem i've ever come across is when your insurance runs out on the same day as your renewal in which case it is rejected.

Have just succeeded by renewing by telephone - fairly straightforward number crunching. Online service still closed for maintenance?

Now interested to see if disc arrives in correct time!

Having paid by phone for new tax disc on Wednesday I have received it today Friday - can't really complain about that can I?
After website not available on Tuesday or Wednesday and phone engaged/out of order on Tuesday - satisfactory outcome
