I think Mr Curtice has hit the nail on the head, we never really felt we were involved with the EU it always felt like them and us. What could we/they have done to make it work?

I never wanted to be part of the EU, I never felt part of it and I am only glad that I have lived to see the day when it starts to fragment. If I had my way I would erect a statue in every town in the land to Nigel Farage, who almost single-handedly saved us by forcing Cameron's hand.

"The Brexit referendum was never about the EU. It was about immigration, or rather the average Briton's age-old horror of foreigners. "

Not for me, it wasn't, allen, as I've explained countless times (as recently as 13:00 on this question).

Forget the individual regulations imposed by the EU, or whether you agree with them or not. The question you must answer is whether you are prepared to sacrifice the control of your lawmakers because you trust that the lot that are (currently) entrusted with that task are more likely to look after your interests. Or, put another way, if the EU suddenly decided that (say) their Working Time Directive was no longer fit for the 28 members and was to be ditched, how would you then feel and what could you do about it?
NJ – There is absolutely no chance whatsoever that the EU will ditch the Working Time Directive.

Once Bexit is complete, there is every chance that a future UK government will decide that such restrictive practices, limiting UK companies abilities to exploit their workforce – should be ditched.
Hymie....good point....who will protect us workers, when we leave the EU ?
"NJ – There is absolutely no chance whatsoever that the EU will ditch the Working Time Directive. "

You're missing the point, Hymie (and I don't think you're doing it deliberately). Just suppose the EU began behaving in a way that did not suit you. Whatcan you do about it?
-- answer removed --
If you believe that Hymie, then do your utmost to encourage folk to vote left wing candidates to Westminster.
NJ – Obviously if the European Commission started to behave like the honourable members at Westminster – there is nothing I could do about it.
Similarly there is nothing I can do about MPs in Westminster (and their behaviour).

OG – What in the world makes you think any of our MPs have my interests at heart?
-- answer removed --
They aren't any less concerned with your interest than someone even farther away in Brussels is. And they are all you have, but being able to vote for someone else you make them accountable, up to a point. Until we get true democracy it is the best that you can hope for.
Although I said in an earlier post, I thought that the EU would do something about zero hours contracts within the UK – in retrospect, I suspect that the EU has become rather fed up with fighting our battles (even before Brexit).

If the UK cannot manage to elect a government that will outlaw the appalling treatment of its citizens, such as zero hours contracts, or companies charging usury interest rates on loans – why should they bother to help us?
mikey4444 Hymie....good point....who will protect us workers, when we leave the EU ?

Who protected us before the EU ( common market ).
The best time was in the 1950s, the post-war boom which saw three successive Tory governments elected. We didn't need any Europe then, neither do we now.
-- answer removed --
The 50s were awful. They also gave us the baby boomers who have just about messed the planet up, and who are doing their utmost to finish the job before they pop their clogs.
