My 3 year old holds her index finger up and thumb out in the shape of a 'L' for left......................
this wont help you, but i still had trouble with my right and left ubtill well into my teenaged years. I met a freind called louise rigby who told me she used to write l and r on her hands, and if anyone asked she would say it was her initials. Now i always think of louise rigby when i need to remember which is which. I think the idea above is excellent
If they are right handed then the hand that they write with is right and the one that is left is left (thank you Windy Miller, Camberwick Green).
If we're talking about a very young child, one of the ways to help them learn left and right is to put the letters L and R in the appropriate shoes. I also put half a smiley face with it (so they can match the shoes the right way round). Hope this helps.
I still use the same method as everylittle's little girl. It was taught to me by my Judo tutor when he became exasperated with me always getting it wrong. :-)
Yep, I still do that too, and I'm 26. You'd think I'd know by now.
I was taught to hold my hands out in front of me with my thumbs out so that the left hand makes an L and the other one ... doesn't.

I still see that in my head when I have to think which is which and I'm 18 :-)
I am 43 and have to look where my wedding ring is........I hope I never get divorced!
