Due to my op, I can't eat meat or bread for at least six weeks and food has to be quite soft with no firm lumps. I've made myself some sweet potato and coconut milk soup, got mashed potatoes in the freezer and also some cauliflower cheese. Can anyone give me any tasty ideas.

Tofu. Fantastic source of protein and you can flavour as you wish, sweet or savoury

Thanks all, some nice ideas. Eth, the thought of a blended pizza and salad makes me feel sick. I can't eat over spiced food at the moment as I don't want to anger my stomach, it hurts enough when food drops in as it is. Islay, is the Quorn the same consistency as beef mince as I can't have that yet?
I'm getting a nice little list going, now :)
What operation have you had Rocky?
No its a lot softer which is why I can take it. You don't cook it the same as mince as its really already cooked.
So in a pain put your veg stock cube and a bit of water and cook, thicken with bisto or however you would thick your mince and then add the quorn mince and cook for 15 mins.

Thanks, Islay. I'll put it on the shopping list and see how it goes. Maybe I'll make a bit of bolo sauce with it.

Thanks, Pasta and Mally. I was thinking about avocados earlier, I'll give them a try as well as they're very smooth aren't they.

Mally, I can't have meat, even minced.
The packets of 'fresh' are large and you get a bit from it so I would use half to make a bolog and half to make savoury mince to go with mashed spud xx

Thanks, Islay. I've put it on my Tesco list.

Just a thought. When I make spagbol, I usually cook it for about 2-2 1/2 hours so that the sauce reduces and the meat is lovely. Would I need to put the Quorn in for that amount of time? Or, should I make a tomato sauce first, then put the Quorn in for the last few minutes?
It'll turn to mush if you cook it for that long.

I don't like the stuff though.
make your tomato sauce first and then add it for the last 15-20 minutes its of a very soft texture and is already 'cooked' so only needs a short time xx

Mush probably wouldn't be a bad thing at the moment. I'm not sure if I've ever tasted it!
Question Author
Thanks, Islay. I'll be making a vat of tomato sauce on Monday.
When you go to buy your Quorn mince, if the supermarket doesn't sell it, be just as happy with their own brand soya mince, just avoid any that are flavoured as that might make them a bit spicy. Another popular make is Granose Its rehydrated and you just add hot water. Instructions on the packet. Mix the soya mince with your cooked tom sauce and use it for spag bol, cottage pie, filling for savoury pancakes. I'd add a little honey to the tom sauce at the moment as it might be a bit sharp for your digestion just now.

Thanks, Maydup. I didn't think about own brand stuff. Good idea.
