I suspect that you didn't study Classics at school.
'Vinology' would be combining Latin ('vin') and Greek ('ology'). That occasionally happens with some 'artificial' words' (such as 'television', which is Greek+Latin) but it's usually a good bet that the Greek 'ology' will have a Greek prefix before it).
I did study Classics at school Chris but our version covered more like mythology than anything like that.
I started looking at vintner and expanded from there to reach vinology.
