A friend of mine has just had to take her baby to the hospital because he has suspected swine flu. I'm not sure how bad the baby is, do they normally respond to treatment and make a recovery?
It turned out to be tonsillitis Sqad thank goodess! GP could understand why his temperature was rising, his ears were clear but his throat was red so sent him to the hospital. They managed to get his temperature down and gave him a course of penicillin.
just for general info, my friends great-nephew is 6 months old, was blue lighted to hospital, turned out to be swine flu, he was in intensive care on a respirator and has pulled through. He is still very frail but expected to make a complete recovery. Its bad but not the end of the world.
Any type of flu could be fatal for a baby or child due to their weak and developing immune systems. Here in the U.S., when a baby has a severe flu symptoms, they are often due to the baby having RSV. RSV in babies can be quite deadly as well. Most babies will have to ride out their flu symptoms, but some fatal illness are treatable.
