Has anyone been to see them? Do they tend to stay indoors for most of the day or is it worth going there to see them when they are outdoors?

There are loads of reviews of Edinburgh Zoo on Tripadvisor, with many of them mentioning visits to see the pandas. However this Mumsnet thread might be just as informative
https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/uk/1807829-A-couple-of-quick-questions-about-Edinburgh-Zoo-mainly-panda-related
when read in conjunction with the info on the zoo's website:

I've been to see see them SJ,Loved it. The female was inside, sleeping. The male was outside, doing handstands... The keeper said he was marking his territory. Not as large as I thought they were. Well worth the visit
I should make the effort to view them... apparently there are fewer pandas in Scotland than Tory MPs!
My friend went a fortnight ago and the female spent the whole time indoors as apparently she's pregnant and its made her a tad shy but apparently he made up for it.
She said it was well worth the visit and would go again just to see them.
There are 12 Tory MPs in Scotland, how many pandas are there?
2 - the only Giant Pandas in the UK.
Don't think the female is pregnant. The zoo seems to trot out this same story every year - maybe I'm cynical but could it just be to increase visitor numbers?
Yes Maggie that's why I said apparently
I doubt many species would thrive if they were gawped at every waking moment.
Maybe daddy panda to be needs a fluffer to overcome the stress of having to perform at a precise time. :-)
