I'm getting a bit tired of this English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh thing that keeps cropping up. All the white caucasion people in the British Isles share 99.99% of the same DNA. That means we are all descended from the same people. I am English, my great grandmother was Scottish, but now live in the Isle of Man (nobodyever bothers to mention the Isle of Man (especially the BBC weathermen. Manx people have their own national anthem and they follow that with the National Anthem "God Save the Queen". Anyone ever having been to see a TT race will testify.
Please, we all live in the most beautiful set of islands in the world. We all have our different customs and accents, which is absolutely wonderful in its diversity. Scotland has beautiful mountains and majestic wildlife, together with the most lovely accent I have ever heard anywhere in the world. The Welsh have majestic mountains and gorgeous beaches too and the most melodic accent int he world . The Northern Irish have a wonderful sense of humour, beautiful natural scenery (e.g. Giant's Causeway) and a great laid back attitude to life generally, despite what a lot of people think (vis a vis the IRA. The English have an eccentric and black sense of humour, lovely rolling hills, downs and The Pennines.
All the animosity stems from the view that the English put down the Scottish and Irish people, but this is a flawed argument. It was basically the rich against the poor. The English poor were treated in much the same barabaric manner as the Scottish, Welsh & Irish poor. Those times are long gone now. I am proud to be English, part Scottish, a neighbour of Ireland and Wales, proud to be living in the Isle of Man and PROUD TO BE BRITISH. Who cares about a little song?
Rant Over.
