Hi all, just wondering if anyone has any tips for easing anxiety. I am going on my hols next week (big family holiday) and we are driving to France.

I absolutely hate traveling to the point I have worked myself up a treat about it! I have a few herbal tablets and I do have Beta blockers from the doctor, but I hate taking them, I feel my heart beat too slow with them!

Any tips would be great :0(

What is it about travelling that you hate?

Just being in a car and away from my comforts I think, I'm like a woman possessed stuck in traffic! Feel so stupid about it too!
Hi there pinkypie I know of several people myself included that have used L-theanine which is extracted from tea and this is nothing short of amazing obliterating any anxiety and a feeling of non drowsy calmness. have a read and do some research and see if it's for you.

Have a word with your GP and explain your feelings. He may feel it appropriate to issue tyou with some mild tranquilisers - something like 2mg of Temazepam will take all that high-level anxiety off you, and leave you feeling relaxed, you may even be able to sleep on the journey.

It's worth a chat anyway.
pinkypie - I relate to how you feel as I too am like that now. But about 3 weeks ago took a chance and went by coach to my destination and was great all through it - however now I am back home, am back to my comfort zones and I could not think of another holiday. You will be okay when you get started and you will get through it.

Thanks for that wrongn3mber, would I get the same result in drinking green tea? :0)
I can't really say I have any experience of what you go through but have you tried things like taking an ipod with your favourite songs on so you can just sit in the car and close your eyes while you listen to the music (assuming that you are not doing the driving). Maybe take one of your pillows or a favourite blanket.

andy-hughes - yes thank you for that. I have chatted to my GP who gave me a beta blocker. I could ask about your suggestion as an alternative :0)

homerbart - Glad you had a good time and got through it. I feel it's such a burden that I can't even get excited about being on holiday just because of the big hurdle of traveling getting in the way! I'm probably stronger than I think I am, but it's a horrible feeling at the time!
Pinkypie Yes theanine is in green tea but the dosage of l- theanine is usually less than 10mg per cup and the dosage that works for many is between 50-200mg, so thats a lot of green tea and if you're travelling the last thing you want is to be taking toilet breaks every 20 mins.
Question Author
Wrongn3mber - yes lol! I can't imagine the amount of toilet breaks I would need for that!
Its not easy Pinkypie and I know how you feel.

Do you drive or are you passenger? I tend to find that I'm fine if I drive but am a hopeless passenger. I can't read (makes me fee sick) and can't relax yet neither can I concentrate properly on the directions.

My suggestion is to take treats with you. If you are passenger, think about what you'd need to pass the time if you were at home and try to recreate that situation. Some favourite "holiday" music is always as good start. Some drinks in a cool box; a promise of a stop at a pleasent place (rather than a service station or worse still, no stop at all); give some thought to a game you could all play as you travel.

Sorry I can't pretend to have a solution but I hope you can find a way to relax and I wish you a great holiday.

Wrongn3mber - any idea where I can buy it? I don't think I have time to wait for online order as I leave Friday.

Maidup - thank you for that, my bag is huge with things to keep me occupied, I also have children and my parents are going so will have plenty of support, but I wish I could feel normal! I try bucking myself up for the sake of the kids, but it's overwhelming!
i suffer with anxiety and panic attacks and was precribed prozac its brill been taking it for 6 months now and havent had a bad panic attack in 4 months and do loads of stuff i'd never normally think about doing on my own, i'd go back to doctors and ask fo different medication, before that i was on amitriptan- sorry spelling- and it didntm agree with me
I would agree totally with the post of Andy-Hughes.
Most online stores deliver the next day if ordered by a certain time (But check first) Try these and phone them first to see what time do you have to phone before to get next day delivery, I haven't tried them but the reviews look good.

It would be worth trying Holland and Barrett if you want to buy on the High Street. Maybe check their website first if you'd have to make a special trip.
H&B doesn't sell it maidup.
