Go to Niagara Falls for fun, and enjoy the ride on 'The Maid of the Mist' (boat that takes you into the bottom of the falls). The suurounding area is, however, very tacky. The Rockies offer spectacular views and beautiful wildlife with wonderful walks up mountains (that aren't very busy as few people can be bothered to go walking). Ottawa is a lovely place to go to with beautiful architecture (as is Quebec, but every time I've been to Quebec it's rained). Toronto has the C.N. Tower for high rise views. Canadians are very friendly people, it's cheaper than America, and they know how to make decent cup of tea!
Canada is a fantastic place - I've been all over and would recommend the following places:
Ottawa - lovely city, the Capital and definitely worth a visit.
Montreal - very interesting, you can try out your French
Toronto - worth a visit for big city buzz (kind of like New York)
Calgary - cowboy country if you fancy seeing a rodeo!
The Rockies - unmissable - Banff and Jasper National Parks (especially Banff) are spectacular - I would particulary recommend seeing the Athabascar Glacier and the Athabasca river which cuts its way through deep gorges - amazing. Also a pretty good chance of seeing a moose, and maybe even a bear.
Vancouver - my favourite city in Canada - has a real villagy bohemian feel to it - great city to just wander around, lovely beaches, interesting bars, restaurants, sites, lovely parks, an interesting port - its got everything!
I hope you decide to go - if you do I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time.

Echo everything said already - we love Canada - Toronto less French than say Montreal which is less French than Quebec. Ottawa interesting - English. Vancouver - long flight - but lots to do.
All have excellent museums and art galleries - should imagine Toronto has good nightlife - certainly lots of sports / music venues.

august/september the weather is beautiful in british columbia, i live in vancouver and i don't know where you got the notion there isn't much to do. i know there is something for everyone, and vancouver island is well worth checking out also. as canada is a very large place and your time is probably limited, do a little research, and get on over! you'll love it.
