I know it sounds sad, but i really fancy going on holiday on my own this year! Anyone able to recommend a place I could go in September where I can meet people, not too hot, for about a week, not expensive! thanks.

My best holiday was to Crete. Loved it!!! I booked it at the last minute and it was cheap enough for me and I had a lovely self catering apartment. I went to a village called Agia Galini on the souther coast, which is about 3 hours drive from the capital, Iraklion. There were loads of sights to see, I went to the Palace of Knossos and walked through the Samaria Gorge (not for the faint hearted) it was beautiful. The village I stayed in was very quaint with lovely restaurants etc.

Consider a walking holiday.
There are loads of companies that do them, and they range from young people's holidays to older people.
They are not all 20 mile hikes, and can offer shorter walks for those that want them.
You can get them in the UK, or all over the world.
Great thing about walking is that you can walk with a group, but still be one your own if you want. But if you feel like talking you would be amazed how easy it is to chat to strangers while you are walking.

i don't think it's sad at all, my most memorable holiday's have been ones i've taken alone. i find people are less intimidated meeting up with one person than two or more, so you tend to meet more locals when your alone, i find. it seems you put a little more effort into meeting people rather than being preoccupied and content to just be with the people your with. so just pick a place you would really like to see, let your hair down and go shake a leg and generally just giv'er. sincerley hope you enjoy yourself!!
