I agree with you fiction-factory, I can't parse it and the letters don't add up for it to be a proper anagram. V unusually for AZED there's another dodgy one this week - 18 across

It's meant to be an &lit clue, the whole clue both defining the answer and providing a cryptic allusion.

I think it's OK, but don't get 18 across if it's meant to be &lit.
