Organ Donation, Presumed Consent.

As the Government discuss changing the law regarding organ donation, are you for or against presumed consent. I have always carried a donor card and am registered, after my death they can have what ever they want. I can see a great benefit to ethnic minorities who are woefully under represented on the register. Can the health service afford all the extra transplants that will now be possible. A few points there, very interested in AB'ers views.

Actually Gness, it's made me seriously question whether I want anyone connected to me to remain on the donation register. This has had exactly the opposite effect than desired as I have always been very pro organ donation. It's a noble thing to do but our bodies do not and should not under any circumstances belong to the state and I am pretty appalled by the proposed change in legislation.

I think a wise legislature should make decisions about the general good, and not be shackled by prejudices and NIMBY attitudes like those expressed by Klavidir.

Quite probably, my father has zero tolerance for tools as well. This little troll however does nothing but traipes around after me hilariously spelling my name wrong and essentially would say that day was night if I affirmed to the contrary. I don't care who or what disagrees with me if it's a genuine opinion, but it's just boring, dull and tedious when you see it's name appear on a thread you've posted on and can 100% guarantee it's just to have a swipe. Needs to get out more.

I was a blood donor for over 25 years. I still carry a kidney donor card - BUT I have a thing about eyes and I do not, repeat DO NOT want anybody to touch them. This is why this element of compulsion would be bad. I would like a tick-box system - I said this on the other thread. I think that it is a 'thin end of the wedge' bit of legislation.

If it goes through I would , very unwillingly, opt out. Sorry, but that's how it is. Too heavy-handed. All it would do is remove my kidneys, heart - and other bits I am very willing to donate - from circulation because I could not choose.

You can choose which organs to donate or not donate, J and if we follow Wales then family will be able to discuss things with the transplant team....

If that's true, gness, then I would withdraw my opposition - but it sounds as if the state would claim all of you at the moment. Hope sense will reign and choice would be allowed.

If you read all the information, J and see what happens in Wales you'll find that even if you don't bother to opt out your family can still have a say and prevent donation...wording will be important but it isn't a given that the state will grab all your bits..... :-)
