It's an interesting dilemma - do you stay true to your religious principles and betray your party line, or stay true to your party, and betray your faith?
Mr Fallon has managed the difficult, but not impossible task of being disloyal to both his party and his faith, and he has now slipped down the crack between them and will doubtless vanish accordingly.

I actuallyhave a fair amount of sympathy for Farron. Once the media-hacks smelt blood they weren't going to rest until they got it; constantly badgering him for a comment on this regardless of what he actually wanted to say on any other topic.
It was a shame that he wasn't able to give his personal (religious) opinion and point his critics in the direction of his voting record..... https:/ /www.th eyworkf oryou.c om/mp/1 1923/ti m_farro n/westm orland_ and_lon sdale/v otes
He always struck me as being insufficiently duplicitous or hard-faced to suceed as a party leader.

He did give his personal religious opinion, and that is where he fell down, because he lied in order to appear more liberal (no pun intended) than he is as a fervent Christian.
As I pointed out, he managed to betray his principles as a politician and as a Christian, so I have no sympathy for him whatsoever.
He was not compelled to lie about his faith, he could have refused the question as a private matter - it's never an issue for any other politicians it seems.

Naomi...the point that I am making is that Farron is just another MP, whose Party failed. His opinion of the issue of the fair treatment of gay people really isn't of any importance in the scale of things. He isn't in any position to change anything, one way or another.......just like Farage in fact.
