TBH you'd have to be radio to go there even before this latest state of affairs, it ain't much of a holiday if you have to be cocooned in a "resort" because the country is up to it's gills in criminal scum.

But millions of people do go because if you are cocooned in your resort (and that's what lots of tourists do) it's not a tish hole it's near paradise if you're into that kind of beach holiday.

Actually, it not as dangerous as you might think. I've been several time, and I've also travelled around Mexico and Colombia - both places with fearsome reputations. The problem is, unless you've been to a place (and you're reliant on news pieces), it's impossible to assess their threat levels.

Jamaica as a huge gun problem, but like (say) New York, you have to consciously go to the very roughest areas (Brooklyn and the Bronx) to encounter anything that you might see on the news.

I don't see the point of travelling around the world to be restricted to a complex. Hardly new experiences or likely to broaden the mind. If it's not safe to go see the community, choose somewhere else to go.

OG it really depends on what you want from a holiday and we are all different. If you want to lie on palm fringed beaches swimming in turquoise seas and drinking rum punches all day then these AI type breaks are great.

Not sure why, but many people get some sort of buzz by visiting these countries.I recon they think it wont happen to them.They only seem happy if Kate Aide is on the same flight :-)

For their government to impose a State of Emergency, one doesn't need to go there to assess what the threat level is.

I don't understand anyone going half way round the world to spend it in a gated man made resort. They make me laugh when they come back home and say how wonderful Jamaica or wherever they have been is, how do they know, they haven't seen it? All they have seen is the plastic resort.
