Can anyone recommend a cheap, clean hotel in central Amsterdam for 3 or 4 lads to stay in during August. Any ideas on things to do in the city would be useful too!!

Try http://www.hostelworld.com/

Don't be put off by the 'hostels' in that site's title. They list hotels as well.

In the search panel, click 'Additional search options'. Put check marks alongside 'Guesthouses' and 'Hotels'. Select the currency as 'British Pounds' and fill in the other relevant details.

Wherever there's been enough feedback to create a meaningful average score, each hotel will have a 'customer satisfaction' rating alongside it. Additionally, you can read all of the individual customer comments if you wish. (Note that, where there are only a small number of reviews, the 'percentage' score doesn't appear on the main list but you can still access it, and read the comments, by clicking on 'more info').

The Hotel My Home has a good (86%) score and, on the August dates I checked, is offering 3- and 5-bedded rooms at 23.38 pppn. That's just one example from the 76 properties on offer. They've all got detailed descriptions (including details of their locations) plus those important customer reviews (which will be able to tell you far more than any one person here on AnswerBank can).

Hoping this helps,

Chris
beer and women try the Hotel De Admirral it,s on a corner and ask for the top floor cos it's got a balcony door leading to the roof , there's only room for 2 people maybe your mates can nick in later .Sorry i can't give you the street it,s on, i lost the address card :- high and ****** up. Ask any taxi driver and he,ll take you there but watch they don,t rip you off .All the best , have a good one .....I did.
Give the Heineken Experience a visit. It's no longer a brewery but it's a fun way to pass a couple of hours. There are a couple of simulators in there (one is where you feel you're on a bottling line and one where you are on the streets of Amsterdam in a horse and cart). The hologram of the original brewer is incredible and was my fave part of the visit. I know you won't be interested in this...but you DO get a couple of drinks on your way around!
I'd also recommend the Anne Frank museum for anyone of any age as it is thought provoking. Get there at the crack of dawn to avoid the queues.

Even if you don't stay here it's a fun visit.

(Although I found it a little smoky (ahem) for my taste)
