For a while now whenever I print out a black and white photo the black areas are printed in stripes and not as a full black area, Any ideas as to what is wrong?

The printer heads need cleaning or something. Goto control panel, then into the printers folder. Right-click your printer and click 'printing preferences...'. then you may have a 'utility' tab which will let you clean the heads.

change your black cartridge, it worked for me
