one girl left £5k against the beast, he let her name her own offer, she asked for £100k, he gave it, she took the 5 instead, then romped home with £5k. Then got 17 in the final chase and the beast failed to catch. She just wasted £95k. Why (x1000) would you ask for £100k and not take it? Unbelievable!

Jourdain I never even heard of TAs when I was at school. My observation comes from reading of other incidents such as the one mentioned here. Perhaps it's me but I would expect a TA to know the answer to 2 x 62. I'd like to think most would:-)
I would say re the maths question - she just passed as she didn't want to waste seconds counting.

Yes wouldn't it have been wonderful if she had have got the £100,000 - quite life changing.
That throws a different light on it jj. I didn't know there was a time element to it. Perhaps she knew then and I am doing her an injustice.
At the end of the day she won £5k, good for her. She probably asked for the high figure in sheer bravado, never really expecting it to be offered. I expect she felt less vulnerable by maintaining the extra gap.
That's right Ladybirder - I watch it most days - do think she has to get as many questions correct in I think 60 seconds. Hope that's right.
I reckon The Beast threw it
I haven't watched that episode yet. If I were the last person standing, I'd definitely go for the high offer. You might as well.
It looks like Mark was lucky unless, as goodgoalie suggested, he threw it.
I also think Mark got a few wrong on purpose. By the way Ladybirder they have 2 minutes to answer as many questions. I thought the question was 32 x 2 so she should have got it instantly teaching assistant or not.
I don't watch it JJ but was just going on what somebody had said:-)
that's right Cashier - 2 minutes to answer the questions,
do also think Mark threw it to her
and also thought 32x2 - cos I knew right away it 64 and I am not a good counter.

Anyway she got £5,000 which is a good amount - I didn't see all of it today - just the tail end of the programme when the girl was on her own.
Didn't watch it but I suspect she had already decided not to take an offer, so when asked, chose something outrageous; was surprised it was granted but stayed with the safer option anyway. Easy to be wise about romping home in retrospect.
A big zero from the linguistics student that didn’t know Basta was enough in Italian.
The sum she passed on was 2 x 32.
But, malagabob, linguistics is the about the science of language, not necessarily about knowing words in foreign languages.
I think it was fixed.. If she had taken the £100000 and got through I suspect The Beast would have romped home. A £5000 win is enough to keep people watching.
Exactly, Boto. I believe the Chasers often give intentional wrong answers - they get paid whatever
Question Author
no chase ever throws a game or even a question. they get paid on their stats and there is no way they would effect that.
