i am far too thin and i hate it.  i have tried everything i can think of to put weight on and i eat junk food all the time, but nothing works.  some of my friends have said that the contraceptive injection puts weight on people so i'm thinking of going on that now.  does anyone know if this is true??

everyones different.. different metabloisms etc.  Consume lots of complex carbohydrates (pasta, potatoes, and brown rice are the main ones) the best thing in the morning is porrege as it keeps sugar levels steady and is a slow release carb. also eat about 40 grams of protein every 3 hours if you can (its very hard) Buy some weight gain shakes as theyre high in carbs, and get down the gym on the weights!! Its very hard for some people, you just have to do your best. I would leave the injections, i wouldnt go down that route.

I agree with above comment, I wouldn't go down the route of injection for the primary reason of putting on weight.  I think your best bet is to contact a dietician (if you are significantly underweight, your doctor will be able to refer you).  Eating junk food isn't necesarily the best option as it causes all sorts of other problems as well.  You might want to get your thyroid checked by the doctor as well.

Alternatively i go to a gym called curves which is focussed on weight control - loss and gain - there may be one near you www.curvesinternational.com they can also help you plan your diet.

Good luck x

No it's not true. I think it's a common misconception that hormone contraception causes weight gain, unless the woman had a weight problem before.  Eating lots of junk food won't do you much good and it's storing up trouble for the future.  You can still have high cholesterol and clogged up arteries even if you are very slim. If you are worried, then you should see your GP as Englishbird suggests. Just as there are ways for people to dress to make them look slimmer, you can also dress in a way to make you appear a little more fuller figured (layers on your top half, smart wide leg trousers, that sort of thing) so have a browse on the web for ideas.
Although I totally agree the injection is not a good idea just to gain weight.... it HAS been seen to increase weight, but on the information that comes in the packet they do point this out as a side effect but say that no studies have been done to see if the women trialled would have put on weight anyway without the jab.

I was told that it isn't the actual injection that makes you put on weight, the injection - or any hormone treatment - can make you hungrier - hence you may put on weight.

I definately put weight on on it, but i'm predisposed to put weight on very easily anyway. Maybe we should swap some genes lucy! :o)

you sound exactly like me! i had same thought and went on the injection-no point has not affected me in anyway if anything iv'e lost a couple of pounds !!
