If the story of Jesus had been authored by man, then He would have been a mighty warrior, a dashing hero, skilled in sword and battle.
Instead He was beaten, weakened, screaming in pain as He hung on the cross, and those looking on did not know they were witnessing the greatest battle and victory in the history of the world. How amazing is our God.
The weak, despised, shamed, anti hero, completely alone, fighting alone, accomplished this greatest of all triumphs - for us.
No human hand could ever have conceived of such an idea.
Praise the Lord for His wisdom end love.

//I hope Theland comes back on this.//
If he does, it will be to tell us that the Bible predicted mockers in the last days...
not making much head way
are you Theland, I am afraid

credo quia incredibilis - as tertullian once said
( I believe coz it is unbelievable for non-Latinists)
I dont find the argument as convincing as T
Nailit, it would be good to have a serious discussion about the historical(?) Jesus, who and what he was or might have been, but I doubt Theland will ever be party to such deliberations.
That's because his mind is already made up Naomi. Anything that might make him question his belief he simply ignores. Rather frustrating trying to have a discussion with him.
Indeed.
Like you said Theland, "The Story", thats all it is a story.
I’m not so sure. If you strip away the ‘supernatural’ I think there’s some truth there.
There is no "historical" Jesus. The first written reference is to what is effectively already a legend where no living person was a contemporary.
beso, true, there are no reports from the time, but I wouldn't dream of claiming that I know something that no one else does - that definitively, the man Jesus never existed. The city of Troy was believed to be mythical .... until it was discovered.
Caesar Augustus , herod the great and Quirinius are considered to be historical figures and would have been contemporaries ...
Interesting article

p.s for those keen on typos , I'm having keyboard problems with capitals in the middle....
Jesus and Krishna-

01)  Both are believed to be sons of God, since they were divinely conceived.

(02)  The birth of both Jesus of Nazareth and Krishna of Dwarka and their God designed missions were foretold.

 (03)  Both were born at unusual places, Christ in a lowly manger and Krishna in a prison cell.

(04)  Both were divinely saved from death pronouncements.

(05)  Evil forces pursued both Christ and Krishna in vain.

(06)  Christ is often depicted as a shepherd; Krishna was a cowherd.

(07)  Both appeared at a critical time when their respective countries were in a torpid state.

(08)  Both died of wounds caused by sharp weapons — Christ by nails and Krishna by an arrow.

(09)  The teachings of both are very similar, both emphasize love and peace.

(10)  Krishna was often shown as having a dark blue complexion, a colour close to that of Christ Consciousness.

Similarity in Names
Christ comes from the Greek word 'Christos', which means "the anointed one". Again, the word 'Krishna' in Greek is the same as 'Christos'. A colloquial Bengali rendering of Krishna is 'Kristo', which is the same as the Spanish for Christ — 'Cristo'.

benhilton, that piece, if I had time and inclination, could be torn to shreds. Its author cannot be said to be without a pre-conceived agenda – not an asset to anyone seeking the truth - and neither can the administrators of the website who claim its ‘mission is to bring the best Biblical Scholarship right to your home’. That, together with a short perusal of articles common to that site should, to any rational mind, start alarm bells ringing.

I expect Theland will like it though.
Naomi , people can click on the article and see for themselves . The article is referenced , citing academics who have studied extensively - perhaps the author does have a preconceived agenda - would you object if I said I thought you had a preconceived agenda ?
Feel free to tear the piece to shreds , someone will probably come along and tear what you've written to shreds .
I hope Theland likes the article - it's his question and I posted the link with him in mind .
benhilton, //would you object if I said I thought you had a preconceived agenda ? //

Not at all. I would, however, ask what you think it is.
