I absolutely love grapefruit but 'The Forbidden Fruit' is high on the list of things i cannot eat due to some of the medication i am on. However, once every blue moon, i indulge. Certain that i saw a blue moon last night, i have just enjoyed a half of grapefruit after breakfast. I savoured each and every mouthful of the bitter/sweet/sourness of it. Total bliss. And, of course, i'll have to eat the other half within the next couple of days to prevent it going orf :-) :-) :-)

Statins, PP. It may be that some of the medication i have been prescribed since starting on statins are also on the list but, as you say, one every blue moon can't hurt. Well, it possibly can but it hasn't yet :-/
I am not allowed grapefruit either, but as I don't like it that is no hardship.
I am too on statins and love grapefruit, but like Ken not allowed :-(

And Minty do tell the story of the pink socks!!!
As far as I am aware it is only Simvastatin which reacts with grapefruit. I am on Pravastatin and Sqad says that it's fine.
My son is taking sertraline for depression and he can't eat grapefruit either
roopower, I too take sertraline and this is the first time I have ever heard about not being allowed grapefruit.
I was warned not to eat grapefruit as I have blood pressure and cholesterol tablets and they do not mix.
Many years ago a friend told me if she ate broad beans she would die due to the tablets she took.

Perhaps i should have pointed out that i take Atorvastatin. I also take Sertraline which was prescribed a couple of years after the statins. A friend of mine reckons that you shouldn't eat grapefruit if you take any 'film-coated' medication. Whether he's right or not i don't really know.
Of all the citrus fruits, why just grapefruit?
Seems it contains a chemical that others don't, opinions are varied about this topic.
