We're going to be spending a few days in South Yorkshire visiting the Sculpture Park, Wakefield, Pontefract races, and a day in Sheffield. Can anyone suggest a not to be missed experience for our spare day? We are not huge fans of stately homes, seen one seen them all, unless they have significant history, and we have been to the Peak District, Howath and north yorkshire. Looking to explore this middle part of the country.
If you like animals there's the Tropical Butterfly House Wildlife And Falconry Centre just around the corner from me. It's just off Junction 31 of the M1.

What about the Piece Hall in Halifax. I've not seen it since its restoration, it was very interesting when I saw it years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piece_Hall
^^^ When I lived in Yorkshire (ages ago), I loved visiting the Piece Hall in Halifax but someone wrote on AB a few years ago that it wasn't as good as it used to be (because, for example, a lot of the retail units were standing empty), so I didn't mention it when this thread first appeared.
However things might have got better again since then, so (if Maydup hasn't already completed her visit to the area) it might well be worth a look:
