I drink black tea too but it needs to be strong. I buy Sainsburys Fair Trade (extra strong). Love it and I keep the bag in the whole time until it is drunk.
My Gujurati mate says a common gag there is “Do you take tea with your sugar?” (Many Indians drink their tea with about half-a-cup of sugar).
Even the thought of drinking tea makes me nauseous....so I'll have just the milk!
Always milk first
//1. The milk helps the fine china from cracking when the hot tea is added //

I thought that was where the idea that poorer people put milk first - i.e. their china wasn't that good and would crack with boiling water, whereas the rich had fine china which could withstand it.
Hate tea. Love coffee and hot steamed milk goes in last.
Last.
Only one way to make decent tea - loose leaves in a teapot, left to brew, milk in mug first. Teabags dangling in mugs is a revolting idea.
Over 50 years ago our school had a new 6th Form centre built, which had drink-making facilities. We thought it was the bee's knees. A friend of mine used to bring tea bags in. Remember this is pre-decimal. The price of a tea bag was about 1d. I used to give him 1/2 d and we used to dunk the bags in each other's mugs. Fancy getting a cup of tea for what would be less than a farthing.
Last, or else the tea bag won't get hot enough.
Put too much milk into your cup to begin with and you have the answer. A ruined cup of tea. Always after.

I never make tea in a cup. Teapot every time.
