When Stripes was a kitten, we threw small sticks into a little stream at the end of our garden, which he then rushed to retrieve.

For the next 16 years, until he died, what did Stripes carry 40 yards up the garden, in his mouth, and leave in our kitchen? (Every day).

A stick.

Sometimes I take one of his sticks out of the box, and my heart swells, my eyes fill, as I think of his loving presents.

I typed up a huge post but then realised that some people are unable to be empathic and the pain experienced by other people is ignored or belittled. Cats are like Marmite - you either love them and let them take over your life or you see them as evil predators (which is true) who do not deserve to exist.

Well, I wish as thread starter I had some control over who could comment, but unfortunately...

Perhaps a moderator could move in again and remove this new offensive answer.
well I hope you are not referring to my answer Bill because it was written out of pure frustration at having to read the offensive posts by two posters basically saying my cat deserved to die and its life was worthless because it killed rabbits and mice. I initially came on this site for advice on telling a grandchild her grannies cat had been killed. I did not expect to find nasty snide comments from people who are obviously old enough to know better.

Lydia, no, of course not, it was aimed at the chief offender, hereiam.
Thank you Bill (sorry I snapped at you) Think I'll leave this thread now. Have a nice evening. xxx
if you have loved and lost a furball then you will understand the emotion...

Our little Minnie was an ex stray who was run over a couple of years ago. She was a real little character. She used to steal the pouches of cat food left on the side and we would find them in the garden, neatly perforated along one end with the contents gone. I suppose she sucked the food out.

Fair enough.

I love all animals, but I am a realist, and know that nearly all domestic (and wild) animals kill for food.

Unlike humans, who (a) can choose to refrain from eating flesh, and (b) sometimes kill for pleasure.

May all animals and their companions live happily.

AuntLyida at 17:57 what a truly nasty post and it tells me what sort of a person YOU are. More determined than ever never to have a cat now, cruel nasty things! You fill your boots now dear, but I won't be back on this thread to read any more of your ramblings ...
