I once not too long ago received a call from an English accented female claiming to be TSB and that they suspected fraud on my account. The quality of the line was (deliberately ?) poor and I was asked to confirm my address - I said they must have my address. Had I made a large purchase from Apple - no, said I. I was asked if I had my card with me, yes said I. There then followed an assortment of questions asking for various details, some of no significance to anyone others not. I continued to dodge answering any questions and in the end said I would call TSB myself to take up any matters regarding the account and any possible fraud. I was convinced from the outset that this was a scam but what utterly floored me was that after ending the call and checking on 1471 the number making the call, the number quoted was the legitimate TSB number. I rang TSB and they confirmed they would not have called me and certainly not in the manner I described. The point is that these hackers are now so good at their craft that they can have BT's exchanges quote the number of their choice.
