Does anyone buy either of these magazines? I`m going to give a gift subscription of one of them to someone for Christmas and wondered which has the more useful and interesting articles rather than adverts.
I've read Devon Life which is OK although not relevant to me being that most of it is about South Devon but a lot of the magazine is just ads for high end kitchens etc. I was wondering if Dorset magazine would have less of that sort of thing than Dorset Life.
don't know about the ads but Dorset Life looks as if it's more history and geography and so on, Dorset is younger and more buzzfeedy, most haunted places, fish and chip shops you need to try, why hip and groin pain should not be ignored. I guess it will depend on who the recipient is.
Thanks. It's for my sister who is thinking of relocating to the Westcountry. Wants Dorset Life for christmas and Somerset Life for her birthday. I think I`m trying to convince myself Dorset mag is more suitable because I can get a cheaper subscription..
I've always thought Dorset life was a bit more upmarket and followed a similar format to Country Life, more highbrow articles on local places and history. The Dorset magazine has a lot of social events and everyday articles, it also includes Compass magazine which I used to be familiar with, it had lots of photos of locals at charity events, dinner dances and the like.
Whenever I read Dorset magazine (as opposed to Dorset Life) it’s always got interviews with Martin Clunes or articles about him and his family and animals. They should call it The Martin Clunes magazine. It’s as if no-one else in the county matters. So if you like him, you’ll be alright. If you’re not a fan, I wouldn’t bother.
