a baby sparrow chick has fallen from a tree in my garden, i tried feeding it but it seems to young to feed from anyone apart from its mother , therefore i have placed it in a box and rested it back on the tree -will the chicks mother collect her baby or is it in danger of starving?
I believe you've done the right thing tali, at least it's off the ground. If its old enough to cheep that would attract every predator around to pick it off so as long as it's not hidden from mum or dad the odds of it surviving are pretty reasonable.
Every year we hear people say 'leave them alone' when a baby bird falls out the nest or looks as though its in distress and mostly it is good advice they should be left alone - but there are always exceptions.
If it helps tali,I found a very weak baby Dunnock near our shed last night. It was pelting with rain and as the baby couldn't move I picked him up and popped him inside with the door open, but this morning I found his poor little body. Heartbreaking, but at least we tried.
